High Tech High North County

San Marcos, CA

In designing High Tech High's San Marcos campus, Studio E Architects sought to create a campus with a distinct, inherent emphasis on sustainability and community. The result is a highly efficient, innovative school design that is keenly mindful of its setting: a layout that captures prevailing breezes and beneficial daylight, while limiting the unwanted heat of direct solar gain. These sustainability efforts have since been lauded as an achievement in green design, receiving LEED Gold certification.

Sharing its five-acre site with its Studio E-designed neighbors High Tech Elementary and High Tech Middle, High Tech High's North County campus is engineered to nurture interconnection and community. Accommodating 550 students, our expansive plan organizes school activities around an active “Main Street” gallery—the school’s primary social space and display area for student work—that links a series of educational neighborhoods of classrooms, exploratories, and studios. A recreational open space comprises the overall campus's front door, providing an invaluable sense of flow and cohesiveness between High Tech High and High Tech Middle.
