This 46-unit apartment building is a fresh take on classic Southern California courtyard housing. Ample walkways and open-air stairs organized around two main courtyards provide every unit with onshore breezes and views to the San Diego Bay. Ground floor units enjoy private sidewalk patios with drought tolerant planting. Penthouse units feature living rooms with double height ceilings awash in natural light, expressed on the exterior as dark gray cowled volumes rising above the roofline. Corridors reveal themselves as slices cut into the white stucco mass revealing a vibrant interior, and bedroom windows are shaded by individual aluminum cowls to create ever-changing shadows.
