TESORO GROVE
San Diego, CA
Set on a leftover parcel near the U.S./Mexico border, the project is sandwiched between a freeway, a wastewater pump station, the backside of a trailer home park, and a 70's era garden apartment complex. In response to this setting, the project looks inward and is organized around a village street that links plazas, common areas and a large community lawn. Buildings are arranged to create usable spaces and form a legible realm. Porches, terraces and stoops give individual units a semi-private, yet engaged relationship with the larger community.
