ONE MIRAMAR
San Diego, CA
East Campus Graduate Student Housing is designed as four residential buildings arranged around a common open space dubbed Summit Walk. A series of courtyard and passage open spaces connect building entrances and the canyon at the edge of the site to the Walk. This arrangement establishes a specific "fit" to the unique site while fostering a sense of belonging and community.
The exterior walls suggest an "inner"/private edge and an "outer"/public edge. Light-colored plaster defines a subdued image of a whitewashed village on the hill visible from the south and west. Court and canyon facades are clad in a tapestry of sidings creating a weave of color and texture suggestive of a diverse and vibrant student culture.
