HIGH TECH HIGH NORTH COUNTY

High Tech High School's San Marcos campus houses 550 students. The school sits on a 5 acre site that will eventually include a middle school. The Master Plan has the two schools embracing recreational open space that also serves as the campus front door.
The design intention was to create a school that emphasizes sustainability and community. The building pays careful attention to its setting and captures prevailing breezes and beneficial daylight while protecting from unwanted heat gain. The school is organized around a gallery space that acts as a kind of main street connecting a series of neighborhoods. The gallery, which is the main display space for student work, is the place where connections and meetings happen.
