BALLPARK VILLAGE
San Diego, CA
The Ballpark Village Master Plan, a finalist entry in an international design competition for a seven-acre site on Park Boulevard, and across from Petco Park in downtown San Diego, creates an authentic and stimulating experience, evoking ones fondest memories of going to a ballgame, meeting friends and coming home. It unites the most dramatic aspects of downtown San Diego, the Bay and skyline.
Intimate spaces contrast with grand civic places making connections to San Diego's history with a vision for its future. Recalling the unique qualities of Balboa Park, the plan engages nature and provides sunny open spaces and shady transitions between indoors and out. Park Boulevard connects Park and Bay as a civic-scaled trellised garden arcade, a unique symbol of Ballpark Village, providing a gesture of welcome and gathering. Ballpark Village realizes San Diego as the Garden Paradise City, with garden terraces that provide tranquil roof deck forests, shaded fountains and ideal settings for varied activities.
