ARBOLERA DE VIDA
Albuquerque, NM
A former sawmill site just north of Old Town Albuquerque is home to the Arbolera de Vida community. Developed by a local non-profit developer, the community's mix of uses includes residential (single-family homes, granny flats, townhomes, apartments and live/work units), incubator commercial, and retail lease space. The community plan and the buildings are organized to both relate to the existing adjacent neighborhood and to reduce energy use through appropriate passive design measures.
Arbolera de Vida focuses on a public plaza, community center and park. Local children have planted and care for an orchard in the park that both recalls the original land use and provides fruit to the residents.
